ECW Results 3.31.09 - Sister Struggle

Published by msatrang under ECW Results Edit This

ECW was really light on the in-ring action this week considering it is WrestleMania week and all three shows (RAW, ECW and SmackDown) were taped on the same night in Dallas.

Mark Henry and Kane beat Christian and Finlay when Henry pinned Christian. After the match Henry punched out Kane just for the fun of it.

A video package of the Undertaker-Shawn Michaels rivalry airs next.

Then it was a video package for the John Cena-Big Show-Edge World Championship triple threat match.

The third segment in a row highlighted a look back at WrestleMania 23.

The fourth video package showed all the goodness behind the Triple H-Randy Orton WWE Title rivalry.

In the second (and final) match of the evening, Nikki Bella (with World Tag Team Champions The Miz & John Morrison) beat her twin sister Brie Bella (with WWE Tag Team Champions Carlito & Primo Colon).

WWE RAW Results 3.30.09 - Family Matters

Published by msatrang under WWE RAW Results Edit This

In an 18 Divas tag team match, WWE Women’s Champion Melina, Brie Bella, Tiffany, Alicia Fox, Maria, Kelly Kelly, Mickie James, Eve Torres & Gail Kim beat WWE Divas Champion Maryse, Nikki Bella, Beth Phoenix, Rosa Mendes, Jillian Hall, Katie Lea Burchill, Natalya Neidhart, Layla & Michelle McCool when Tiffany pinned Katie Lea. The match barely lasted two minutes and I think only Mickie, Jillian, Beth, Tiffany and Katie Lea were even a part of the match. Quite the waste. After the match Santino Marella came out to show of his mankini but gets attacked by the Divas.

Chris Jericho beat Jerry “The King” Lawler by submission. After the match Jericho hyped up his WrestleMania match against the aging legends.

Rey Mysterio beat Intercontinental Champion JBL in a non-title match. I’m not really sure of the point of giving a WrestleMania match away six days before the event. Wouldn’t it have been more effective to have JBL pay someone like Vladimir Kozlov or Mike Knox take on Mysterio instead?

The Big Show pinned John Cena clean in the middle of the ring with a chokeslam.

Shawn Michaels came out for a “Funeral for Mr. WrestleMania.” He continues his taunting of Undertaker and once again gets away before Undertaker can get a hold of him and ends up dropping The Dead Man with Sweet Chin Music once again.

Kane won an eight-man battle royal featuring the participants of Money in the Bank at WrestleMania XXV. Kane got the last word during ECW last week, won the pinfall during the eight-man tag on last week’s SmackDown and now won this battle royal. It’s pretty safe to say that Kane isn’t winning at WrestleMania.
Order of elimination:
Mark Henry eliminated Finlay
The rest of the participants eliminated Henry
Kane eliminated MVP and Shelton Benjamin
CM Punk eliminated Kofi Kingston
Kane eliminated both Punk and Christian to win the match.

Randy Orton came out to end the show with his “WrestleMania address.” He basically recaps his feud with Triple H before Vince McMahon, Shane McMahon and Triple H make their entrances. The McMahons and Triple H brawl with Orton and Legacy as the show closes. I smell a six-man tag for Backlash.

WWE SmackDown Results 3.27.09 - Ying/Yang

Kane, Finlay, Shelton Benjamin and Christian beat CM Punk, Kofi Kingston, Mark Henry and United States Champion MVP when Kane pinned Punk.

The Big Show beat Jesse & Festus in a handicap match.

Backstage Matt Hardy taunts his brother Jeff while holding a Jack Russell terrier, the same type of dog that Jeff Hardy lost in a fire last year.

Rey Mysterio pinned Chavo Guerrero.

John Cena came out to hype up the World Heavyweight Championship triple threat at WrestleMania but is interrupted by Big Show. A match is made between the two for RAW.

Matt Hardy pinned R-Truth.

WWE Tag Team Champions Primo & Carlito Colon & Brie Bella beat World Tag Team Champions John Morrison & The Miz & Nikki Bella.

Backstage Jeff Hardy offers a rebuttal to his brother Matt.

Michelle McCool v. Maryse for the Divas Championship ended in a no contest when Gail Kim interfered and took out both women.

Shawn Michaels comes all dressed in white, like the ying to Undertaker’s yang. Michaels begins a tribute to Undertaker but is interrupted by the man himself. Michaels escapes before Undertaker can cause any bodily harm on him.

TNA Impact Results: 3.26.09 - The Gauntlet

Tonight was another solid episode of Impact as I wonder if I’m just becoming used to their bad product or if it is actually picking up a bit. One thing’s for sure, there was a lot more in-ring action tonight than there has been in a long time.

Jim Cornette opens the show by announcing a 20 man Gauntlet inside the Six Sides of Steel. The winners will be the captains of the traditional Lethal Lockdown at April’s LockDown PPV. The Main Event Mafia comes out to talk some trash who was then interrupted by TNA Founder Jeff Jarrett, who announces he will be in the Gauntlet himself.

Suicide beat Kiyoshi in a X-Division Championship match.

They aired a great Rough Cut segment on Brother Ray.

That segued into a sit down interview between the IWGP Tag Team Champions Team 3-D and TNA World Tag Team Champions “Beer Money” – Robert Roode & James Storm. It was a great segment that effectively built up the Tag Title match without the clichéd pull apart brawls.

“The Beautiful People” – Angelina Love & Velvet Sky beat TNA Women’s Champion Awesome Kong & Raisha Saeed when Love pinned Saeed.

Mick Foley and TNA World Champion Sting had a face-to-face meeting to hype up their main event match at LockDown.

Samoa Joe won the 20 man Gauntlet inside the Six Sides of Steel. Here’s the rundown:
Abyss and AJ Styles were numbers 1 and 2. Then Alex Shelley, Jay Lethal and Chris Sabin entered as numbers 3, 4 and 5. Matt Morgan was number 6 but gets pinned quickly by his arch-rival Abyss. Number 7 was Homicide, followed by Scott Steiner. During the commercial break Sabin pinned Homicide and Consequences Creed entered the match. Rhino came out as number 10. Then Jeff Jarrett was supposed to be number 11 but got jumped by Kurt Angle before he could enter the ring. The trainers take care of Jarrett as Naito from Team No Limit enters. He is followed by Angle himself. Angle cleans house and eliminates Creed, Sabin and Lethal in rapid succession. During the commercial Naito was eliminated by Steiner and Shane Sewell entered the match. Sewell didn’t last long as he was eliminated by Angle quickly. The matched continued with Sheik Abdul Bashir and Booker T as 15 and 16 respectively. Booker eliminated AJ quickly but then gets beat himself by Rhino. Yujiro from Team No Limit came out and Bashir got pinned by Angle. Number 18 was Eric Young and entered just as Angle and Steiner eliminated Abyss. Angle then pinned Young in short order. Rhino then pinned Yujiro but was immediately pinned himself by Angle. Angle and Steiner stood alone to await number 19 Hernandez. Angle pinned him quickly and awaited number 20, but instead TNA Management Jim Cornette sent Jeff Jarrett back out, who was officially never eliminated before. Jarrett pinned Steiner, who didn’t leave the ring like he should have. He helped Angle pin Jarrett only for Samoa Joe to enter, the rightful twentieth entrant. Joe brawled with Steiner and Angle before pinning Angle to win the match. As a result Joe and Angle, the two finalists will captain teams against each other at LockDown.
It was a good match but the booking at the ending started to make not sense in typical TNA fashion. And I asked why are these guys fighting so far individually in order to get into a tag team match. So some of the psychology in the match was off but it was pretty good, especially for TNA’s recent poor standards.

After the match, Cornette explains why he let Jarrett re-enter the match and then they get words from both Angle and Joe.

Check out 411 for other thoughts on the show.

ECW Results 3.24.09 - The VIP Lounge

Published by msatrang under ECW Results Edit This

ECW opened with WWE Tag Team Champion Carlito (with Primo and Brie Bella) taking on World Tag Team Champion John Morrison (with The Miz and Nikki Bella). When Morrison and company left the ring to take a count out loss, ECW General Manager Teddy Long interrupted and said the Unified World Tag Team Title match at WrestleMania XXV would now be a lumberjack match. He then called the lumberjacks (pretty much any male wrestler not booked in a match at WrestleMania) to surround the ring. Carlito and Morrison finished the match that saw Carly win with a backstabber.

Evan Bourne & Tommy Dreamer beat Tyson Kidd & ECW Champion Jack Swagger when Bourne pinned Kidd. Bourne continues to look like a superstar in every appearance and gets treated like one by the live crowds.

The show ended with WWE United States Champion Montel Vontavious Porter hosting a VIP Lounge for the other Money in the Bank participants including CM Punk, Shelton Benjamin, Finlay, Christian, Kofi Kingston, Mark Henry & Kane. Kane got the last word by lighting the ring posts ablaze after everyone else had said their piece.

Another great show that effectively built up WrestleMania.

WWE RAW Results 3.23.09 - The Long Kiss Goodnight

Published by msatrang under WWE RAW Results Edit This

The show opens with Ric Flair already in the ring, who accepts on behalf of Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, Rowdy Roddy Piper and “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka to Chris Jericho’s challenge for a handicap match at WrestleMania XXV. Jericho interrupts and cuts a promo as he walks from the production truck to the ring. He and Flair continue their war of words in the ring until Jericho cheap shots Flair. Jericho proceeded completely destroy Flair, leaving him a bloody and beaten mess to send a message to the other legends. Great opening promo to hype up their match at WrestleMania.

Jeff Hardy beat Dolph Ziggler in an Extreme Rules match.

John Cena sent in a video package making fun of Edge, Big Show and Vickie Guerrero. He wasn’t in the arena as he was in LA filming an episode of “The Tonight Show.”

Christian, MVP, Kofi Kingston & CM Punk beat Finlay, Shelton Benjamin, Kane & Mark Henry in an eight man tag when Christian pinned Benjamin. After the match Finlay took out Christian, Punk, Henry, Kane and Henry’s manager Tony Atlas with a ladder.

World Heavyweight Champion Edge versus The Big Show was a no contest when Chavo Guerrero interfered. After the match, Big Show knocked out Edge.

Rey Mysterio pinned William Regal.

The Undertaker came out to cut a promo on Shawn Michaels in preparation for their match at WrestleMania, but Michaels interrupted via video package from a cemetery. Michaels walked through the cemetery recapping Undertaker’s past sixteen WrestleMania victims and then promised to bury Undertaker’s undefeated WrestleMania streak. Absolutely great segment to hype up their match.

Mickie James beat Santino Marella with one hand tied behind his back. If Santino were to win he would have been entered in the 25 Diva battle royal at WrestleMania. It was a great comedy segment and a perfect way to break up the seriousness of the rest of the show.

The WWE Champion Triple H v. Randy Orton & Ted DiBiase handicap match never got started as Orton, DiBiase and Cody Rhodes attacked HHH before the match even started. They eventually handcuffed HHH to the ring ropes and beat him mercilessly. Stephanie McMahon then ran out to stop the beating on her husband, but Orton ended up dropping her with a rope assisted DDT. He then continue to taunt a still handcuffed Triple H as Stephanie lied unconscious in the ring. Great, great go-home segment for WrestleMania’s main event.

WWE SmackDown Results 3.20.09 - 500th Episode

This week’s SmackDown was their 500th episode and featured stars from all three brands.

Triple H pinned Vladimir Kozlov.

MVP pinned Shelton Benjamin to win the United States Championship.

Shawn Michaels pinned Kane.

Jeff Hardy pinned The Brian Kendrick in an Extreme Rules match.

The Undertaker made WWE Intercontinental Champion John “Bradshaw” Layfield by submission in a non-title match.

World Heavyweight Champion Edge and The Big Show came out to the ring with SmackDown GM Vickie Guerrero. Both guys declare their love to Vickie until John Cena came out to interrupt the love-in. Show and Edge then brawled with each other and Vickie got knocked down in the process. Not the best way to end the 500th episode.

TNA Impact Results 3.19.09 - Foley’s Return to the Ring

This week’s TNA Impact broadcast was much better than it has been in many weeks. Here’s the fall out.

The Main Event Mafia opened the show with Kurt Angle incensed about losing to Sting at Destination X thanks to supposed bad officiating from Jeff Jarrett and Mick Foley. It leads to Foley and Jarrett both coming out to confront the Mafia and Angle challenging them to a tag match against Angle and Sting. Great promo work from all four men.

Team No Limit beat the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Champions “The Motor City Machine Guns” – Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin in a non-title match. Great match. Afterwards the TNA World Tag Team Champions “Beer Money” – James Storm & Robert Roode came out and cleared the ring. They then called out IWGP World Tag Team Champions Team 3-D – “Brother Ray & Brother Devon” and challenged them to a match at LockDown. Team 3-D accepted the match and offered to put their IWGP Tag Titles as well. More great promo work, especially from Brother Ray an Roode.

Taylor Wilde & ODB beat The Awesome Kong & Raisha Saeed when Wilde pinned Kong.

Sheik Abdul Bashir beat Samoa Joe by DQ.

Backstage Lauren interviews the Beautiful People and Madison Rayne and they effectively write out Cute Kip as their associate.

In the ring Jim Cornette introduces the new TNA Legends Champion AJ Styles. Cornette confirms that the Legends Title is an official sanctioned title in TNA after incumbent champion Booker T signed the contract to defend the Title against AJ at Destination X. Booker then came out for a rebuttal and challenged Styles to a rematch.

The Governor pinned Madison Rayne. After the match, The Beautiful People attacked Governor and cut her hair.

Backstage, Joe has Bashir strung up like a piñata and beat him with a kendo stick.

Jeff Jarrett and Mick Foley beat Sting and Kurt Angle when Foley hit Sting with a chair. After the match an incensed Sting challenged Foley to a match at LockDown.

ECW Results 3.17.09 - A Twin Catfight

Published by msatrang under ECW Results Edit This

ECW opens with the Irishmen Finlay and Hornswoggle celebrating on St. Patrick’s Day. This is ECW, the best one-hour wrestling program produced in a long time.

WWE United States Champion Shelton Benjamin and Mark Henry beat Christian and MVP when Benjamin pinned Christian.

Evan Bourne pinned Jaime Noble in his return match. Bourne didn’t look like he lost a step in his absence and it was great to see him back in action.

ECW Champion “All-American American” Jack Swagger came out remind everyone that he is still the ECW Champion.

Finlay pinned Paul Burchill.

The show ended with World Tag Team Champions The Miz & John Morrison hosting “The Dirt Sheet,” alongside with Nikki & Brie Bella. Carlito then goes to spit apple in Morrison’s face but he ducks and it hits Nikki Bella. The twins then get into a catfight, and Nikki leaves with Miz and Morrison while Brie stays with The Colons.
