TNA Impact Results 5.7.09 - Sting’s Sacrifice

Impact opened in the same way it always seems to open, with a Main Event Mafia promo. Kurt Angle, on behalf of the Mafia, really says a whole lot other than complain about the 10-man tag main event for later evening. This draws out NA World Champion Mick Foley and Christopher Daniels, who really say nothing of importance. Jeff Jarrett and AJ Styles then come out so Jarrett can argue with Foley, and nothing is accomplished.

TNA X-Division Champion Suicide pinned Consequences Creed in a non-title match.

In his office, Mick Foley books Matt Morgan in a match against Main Event Mafia Security.

They then aired a pre-recorded sit-down interview with the entire Main Event Mafia, but nothing earth shattering was discovered.

Matt Morgan beat The Main Event Mafia Security (Big Rocco & Sally-Boy) in a handicap match.

Beer Money (“Tennessee Cowboy” James Storm & Robert Roode) beat Eric Young & “The Outlaw” Jethro Holliday a semi-finals match of the Team 3-D Tag Team Invitational. Team 3-D came out and did commentary for he match. The one good thing that Impact did this was stress their quality of tag team wrestling and this match was a great example of it. It was a great segment highlighting on their company’s strengths, but almost went too far when they namedropped Jim Ross in commentary.

The Awesome Kong beat Velvet Sky in a stretcher match.

In Dr. Stevie’s office, Stevie Richards meets with Abyss and Daffney and announces that Daffney will be in the first-ever women’s Monster’s Ball match at Sacrifice and wants Abyss to be in her corner.

Jay Lethal and Consequences Creed come out to the ring and call out Christopher Daniels, again asking him if he is the man under the Suicide mask. Daniels gets offended by the accusations and is interrupted by The Motor City Machineguns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin) who fire off some smarky comments and vow to unmask Suicide next week.

Backstage in the locker room, Jeff Jarrett agrees with Sting that if Sting pins Mick Foley in the main event tag match tonight he will be in the main event at Sacrifice.

The Main Event Mafia (Kurt Angle, Sting, Kevin Nash, Booker T & Scott Steiner) beat TNA World Champion Mick Foley, Jeff Jarrett, AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels & Samoa Joe) when Sting pinned Foley. As a result Sting will be a part of the four-way TNA World Title match at Sacrifice. After the match, Sting announces that if he gets pinned in that match at Sacrifice he will retire.

TNA Impact Results 4.30.09 - “The Godfather’s” Sacrifice

The Main Event Mafia opens the show with their standard group promo. Kurt Angle announces he will be part of the four way World Title match at Sacrifice, and will put up his “Godfather” status of the Main Event Mafia as his “sacrifice” to enter the match.

The Amazing Red & TNA X-Division Champion Suicide beat The Motor City Machineguns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) in a quarterfinal match of the Team 3-D Tag Team Invitational tournament.

The Latin American Xchange (Homicide & Hernandez) versus The British Invasion (Brutus Magnus & Doug Williams, accompanied by Rob Terry) Team 3-D Team Invitational tournament became a handicap match when The British Invasion attacked Hernandez before the match started. In a handicap match The British Invasion beat Homicide to advance in the tournament.

The Awesome Kong beat Madison Rayne in a Stretcher Match.

The Motor City Machineguns hit the ring and call out Chris Daniels, claiming that he is the man under the Suicide mask. Daniels denies the claim and ends up laying out both members of The Guns.

Abyss pinned Cody Deaner in match where Deaner could use weapons but Abyss could not.

Booker T & Kevin Nash beat AJ Styles & Samoa Joe when Booker pinned Styles after a shot from the Legends Championship title belt.

Backstage Kurt Angle threatens to attack Mick Foley and take over his office. They go through a painfully long and pointless segment before the lights go out. When they come back on Sting is standing over both a fallen Angle and Foley.

TNA Impact Results 3.23.09 - Cactus Jack Smack Attack

Jeff Jarrett opens the show to officially present Mick Foley his new World Heavyweight Championship. Foley came out to accept the belt and Jarrett announced Foley would defend the World Title at Sacrifice in an “Ultimate Sacrifice” fatal four-way match. Foley didn’t like this so be turned around and booked Jarrett in a match against Scott Steiner in a “Cactus Jack Smack Attack.”

Backstage Team 3-D is with Don West and announces a Team 3-D Tag Team Invitational with the winner get a trophy, a check and shot at Team 3-D’s Tag Titles.

Beer Money – “Cowboy” James Storm & Robert Roode beat “Lethal Consequences” – Jay Lethal & Consequences Creed in a quarterfinal match of the Team 3-D Invitational.

Backstage, Jeremy Borash tries to interview Jarrett about his match with Steiner but is interrupted by Eric Young, asking for a shot. Jarrett tells him to go find Holliday and take his partner’s spot.

Clips of Foley’s night and morning after winning the TNA World Title.

Sojourner Bolt beat Taylor Wilde in a Ladder Match for a future TNA Knockouts Title match. She won with a botched brass knuckles shot. Complete waste of a match and a segment. Terrible.

Backstage, JB tries to interview Jarrrett again but ref Slick Johnson tells him he needs to call home.

Mi Pi Sexy – TNA Knockouts Champion Angelina Love, Velvet Sky & Madison Rayne came out to celebrate Love’s Title victory. Awesome Kong interrupts and attacks the dancing boys they brought out to dance for Love.

AJ Styles beat Kevin Nash by DQ when Booker T interfered.

“The Outlaw” Jethro Holliday & Eric Young beat Team No Limit in a quarterfinal match of the Team 3-D Invitational.

Jeff Jarrett pinned Scott Steiner in a “Cactus Jack Smack Attack” hardcore match. Angle then comes out to attack Jarrett. Foley runs out hits both Angle and Jarrett with chair shots. After the break Jarrett is in the ring with Styles and Daniels who threatens to fire Foley’s ass, only for Bobby Lashley to come out on the ramp and smile his goofy smile.

It was an alright show, but there was typical TNA back-asswardsness like why are Nash & Booker fighting for no reason? And it’s hard to keep track of who is a good guy and who is a bad guy these days.

TNA Impact Results 4.16.09 - Fallen Angel’s Return

Impact opens with AJ Styles out for an interview. He calls out Jeff Jarrett about whether he can trust him so of course Jarrett comes out pacify Styles’ fears. Abyss & Daffney beat Cody Deaner & ODB in a mixed tag when Abyss pinned Deaner. After the match Matt Morgan attacks Abyss.

In the ring, Mick Foley has an interview with his alter ego Cactus Jack. Sting then comes down to confront Foley about their upcoming match at LockDown. The two men brawl with Foley getting the upper hand as he demands the production team play various people’s music.

After the commercial break Beer Money are destroying Balls and Runt. After Beer Money lay waste to the two ECW originals, Team 3-D finally makes the save. Great segment.

In the main event, the returning “Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels beat Kurt Angle with a cradle. However both men had their shoulders down on the mat and TNA Founder Jeff Jarrett came out to reverse the decision as after reviewing the pin from multiple angles he found that Angle’s shoulder was up. Thus Kurt Angle won the match and The Main Event Mafia gained the man advantage in that weekend’s Lethal LockDown main event.

Great show; one of TNA’s best in a long time. It was great to see appearances from Balls Mahoney and Brother Runt and the return of Christopher Daniels was a long time coming and a welcome sight.

TNA Impact Results: 3.26.09 - The Gauntlet

Tonight was another solid episode of Impact as I wonder if I’m just becoming used to their bad product or if it is actually picking up a bit. One thing’s for sure, there was a lot more in-ring action tonight than there has been in a long time.

Jim Cornette opens the show by announcing a 20 man Gauntlet inside the Six Sides of Steel. The winners will be the captains of the traditional Lethal Lockdown at April’s LockDown PPV. The Main Event Mafia comes out to talk some trash who was then interrupted by TNA Founder Jeff Jarrett, who announces he will be in the Gauntlet himself.

Suicide beat Kiyoshi in a X-Division Championship match.

They aired a great Rough Cut segment on Brother Ray.

That segued into a sit down interview between the IWGP Tag Team Champions Team 3-D and TNA World Tag Team Champions “Beer Money” – Robert Roode & James Storm. It was a great segment that effectively built up the Tag Title match without the clichéd pull apart brawls.

“The Beautiful People” – Angelina Love & Velvet Sky beat TNA Women’s Champion Awesome Kong & Raisha Saeed when Love pinned Saeed.

Mick Foley and TNA World Champion Sting had a face-to-face meeting to hype up their main event match at LockDown.

Samoa Joe won the 20 man Gauntlet inside the Six Sides of Steel. Here’s the rundown:
Abyss and AJ Styles were numbers 1 and 2. Then Alex Shelley, Jay Lethal and Chris Sabin entered as numbers 3, 4 and 5. Matt Morgan was number 6 but gets pinned quickly by his arch-rival Abyss. Number 7 was Homicide, followed by Scott Steiner. During the commercial break Sabin pinned Homicide and Consequences Creed entered the match. Rhino came out as number 10. Then Jeff Jarrett was supposed to be number 11 but got jumped by Kurt Angle before he could enter the ring. The trainers take care of Jarrett as Naito from Team No Limit enters. He is followed by Angle himself. Angle cleans house and eliminates Creed, Sabin and Lethal in rapid succession. During the commercial Naito was eliminated by Steiner and Shane Sewell entered the match. Sewell didn’t last long as he was eliminated by Angle quickly. The matched continued with Sheik Abdul Bashir and Booker T as 15 and 16 respectively. Booker eliminated AJ quickly but then gets beat himself by Rhino. Yujiro from Team No Limit came out and Bashir got pinned by Angle. Number 18 was Eric Young and entered just as Angle and Steiner eliminated Abyss. Angle then pinned Young in short order. Rhino then pinned Yujiro but was immediately pinned himself by Angle. Angle and Steiner stood alone to await number 19 Hernandez. Angle pinned him quickly and awaited number 20, but instead TNA Management Jim Cornette sent Jeff Jarrett back out, who was officially never eliminated before. Jarrett pinned Steiner, who didn’t leave the ring like he should have. He helped Angle pin Jarrett only for Samoa Joe to enter, the rightful twentieth entrant. Joe brawled with Steiner and Angle before pinning Angle to win the match. As a result Joe and Angle, the two finalists will captain teams against each other at LockDown.
It was a good match but the booking at the ending started to make not sense in typical TNA fashion. And I asked why are these guys fighting so far individually in order to get into a tag team match. So some of the psychology in the match was off but it was pretty good, especially for TNA’s recent poor standards.

After the match, Cornette explains why he let Jarrett re-enter the match and then they get words from both Angle and Joe.

Check out 411 for other thoughts on the show.

TNA Impact Results 3.19.09 - Foley’s Return to the Ring

This week’s TNA Impact broadcast was much better than it has been in many weeks. Here’s the fall out.

The Main Event Mafia opened the show with Kurt Angle incensed about losing to Sting at Destination X thanks to supposed bad officiating from Jeff Jarrett and Mick Foley. It leads to Foley and Jarrett both coming out to confront the Mafia and Angle challenging them to a tag match against Angle and Sting. Great promo work from all four men.

Team No Limit beat the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Champions “The Motor City Machine Guns” – Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin in a non-title match. Great match. Afterwards the TNA World Tag Team Champions “Beer Money” – James Storm & Robert Roode came out and cleared the ring. They then called out IWGP World Tag Team Champions Team 3-D – “Brother Ray & Brother Devon” and challenged them to a match at LockDown. Team 3-D accepted the match and offered to put their IWGP Tag Titles as well. More great promo work, especially from Brother Ray an Roode.

Taylor Wilde & ODB beat The Awesome Kong & Raisha Saeed when Wilde pinned Kong.

Sheik Abdul Bashir beat Samoa Joe by DQ.

Backstage Lauren interviews the Beautiful People and Madison Rayne and they effectively write out Cute Kip as their associate.

In the ring Jim Cornette introduces the new TNA Legends Champion AJ Styles. Cornette confirms that the Legends Title is an official sanctioned title in TNA after incumbent champion Booker T signed the contract to defend the Title against AJ at Destination X. Booker then came out for a rebuttal and challenged Styles to a rematch.

The Governor pinned Madison Rayne. After the match, The Beautiful People attacked Governor and cut her hair.

Backstage, Joe has Bashir strung up like a piñata and beat him with a kendo stick.

Jeff Jarrett and Mick Foley beat Sting and Kurt Angle when Foley hit Sting with a chair. After the match an incensed Sting challenged Foley to a match at LockDown.

After the match, Morgan tries to attack Lauren, who was at ringside to cheer on Abyss. Abyss makes the save.

Taylor Wilde (with The Governor and Roxxi) beat Madison Rayne (with Angelina Love, Velvet Sky & Cute Kip.) After the match Rayne, Kip and the Beautiful People leave Wilde, Roxxi and Governor lying out in the ring.

“Lethal Consequences” – Jay Lethal and Consequences Creed and “Latin American Xchange” – Homicide and Hernandez beat Booker T, Scott Steiner and “The Motor City Machine Guns” – Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin when Hernandez pinned Sabin.

In the main event, Eric Young (with Sting in his corner) pinned Main Event Mafia security member Rocco (with Kurt Angle and MEM security member Sal in his corner). After the match, there was another brawl and it ended with Jeff Jarrett announcing he will referee the Sting-Angle main event at Destination X, and Foley will be the special enforcer.

The show had its good points, but was largely unmemorable.

TNA Impact Results 3.5.09 - Angle’s Suspension

TNA Impact opened with Mick Foley trying to sway TNA World Champion Sting away from the Main Event Mafia and back into TNA Wrestling’s good graces. Booker T, Kevin Nash and Scott Steiner of the Mafia came out back up Sting and confront Foley.

TNA X-Division Champion Alex Shelley (with Chris Sabin) beat Kiyoshi (with Team No Limit) in a X-Division Title match. After the match Suicide attacked Shelley and Sabin.

“The Beautiful People” – Angelina Love & Velvet Sky won a four team Knockouts tag match over Roxxi & Taylor Wilde, Awesome Kong & Raisha Saeed and Sojourner Bolt & Rhaka Khan.

Booker T came out to confront AJ Styles about stealing the Legends Championship. AJ showed up and gets attacked by both Booker and Scott Steiner. He then gets arrested for his previous assaults I guess. One of the cops in riot gear ended up being Samoa Joe, who snuck up on Steiner and put a knife to his throat.

Matt Morgan pinned Shane Sewell.

“Latin American Xchange” – Homicide & Hernandez beat TNA World Tag Team Champions “Beer Money” – James Storm & Robert Roode by disqualification. After the match Team 3-D ran out and challenged Beer Money to a Tag Title match for the Destination X pay per view.

The show ends with Jeff Jarrett and Kurt Angle have a brawl that went all over the Impact Zone.

It was a pretty awful, and unmemorable edition of Impact tonight; worse than most recent editions.

Check out Pulse Wrestling and 411Mania for much more detailed results.
